Van Life Campsites in Dumfries & Galloway

Be the first to list a site here

Dumfries & Galloway is Scotland's most underrated region for van life. The Galloway Forest Park — the UK's first dark sky park — covers 300 square miles of ancient forest, open moorland, and loch-dotted hills in the region's heart. Use official campsites and authorised vehicle stopovers around Loch Trool, Clatteringshaws, and the wider park.

The Solway Coast AONB is a world apart: vast tidal mudflats, salt marshes, and the ancient town of Kirkcudbright — Scotland's "Artists' Town" — where a remarkable number of artists have lived and worked since the 19th century. Farm sites along the Solway coast are excellent and affordable.

The Mull of Galloway — Scotland's most southerly point — offers dramatic cliff scenery and the genuine feeling of land's end. Van lifers regularly note that the whole of Dumfries & Galloway feels like the Highlands without the crowds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Galloway Forest Park good for van life and stargazing?

The Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park is excellent for stargazing. Use an official campsite or an expressly authorised overnight vehicle stop; Scotland's tent-camping access rights do not authorise parking or sleeping in a campervan.
