Van Life Campsites in Perthshire

Perthshire bills itself as "Big Tree Country" — ancient Caledonian pinewoods, enormous old larch and European larch plantations, and the famous Fortingall Yew (possibly Europe's oldest tree) all support the claim. But the county's van life offer goes far beyond its trees.

Loch Tay is surrounded by good farm and wild camping options, with Ben Lawers (Scotland's tenth highest mountain) rising above its northern shore. Rannoch Moor on the county's western edge is one of the most desolate and dramatic landscapes in Britain — a vast peat moorland with Loch Rannoch on its northern edge and virtually no habitation.

The Cairngorm National Park's western fringe runs through Perthshire above Pitlochry and Blair Atholl. The Pass of Killiecrankie, the Falls of Bruar, and the old drove roads over the Grampians are all accessible from farm sites in this area. Pitlochry itself is a useful town stop with good supermarkets.

Van Life Tips for Perthshire

Rannoch Moor is remote — the A82 is the only road across it and has no services between Bridge of Orchy and Kinlochleven. Fill up and carry spare water before crossing. The B846 along the north shore of Loch Rannoch is quieter and very beautiful.
