Van Life Campsites in Dorset

Be the first to list a site here

Dorset punches well above its size for van life. The Jurassic Coast β€” England's only natural World Heritage Site β€” runs the full length of the county's coastline, and several farm sites sit within metres of the cliff path between Studland and Lyme Regis.

The Isle of Purbeck (a peninsula, despite the name) is particularly good: a mix of chalk downland, heathland, and dramatic coastline between Poole Harbour and Swanage. Farm sites here often have views towards Old Harry Rocks and Corfe Castle. Busy in summer but remarkable in spring and late autumn.

Cranborne Chase AONB in the north of the county offers quieter van camping away from the coast β€” chalk downland with ancient woodland and remarkably dark skies. Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum make good supply stops. Hardy's Wessex is real here, and it's easy to spend a week exploring without seeing the same view twice.

Van Life Tips for Dorset

The Purbeck peninsula is very busy in July and August β€” plan to arrive early or mid-week. Cranborne Chase offers the same quality of landscape with far fewer visitors throughout the season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sleep near the Jurassic Coast in a van?

Yes β€” several farm sites and private spots in our directory are within walking distance of the Jurassic Coast path. Overnight parking in Jurassic Coast car parks is not permitted.

What is the best time of year for van life in Dorset?

May, June, and September offer the best balance of good weather, fewer crowds, and open farm sites. The coast is stunning year-round but most informal sites close November–March.
